Built to address the dual crisis of climate change and biodiversity loss, StoneWoods Forest Carbon is a Canadian natural capital asset funded by a suite of sophisticated global climate leaders. Designed and implemented by environmental professionals, StoneWoods aims to produce 1 megaton of sound, verified, and transparent carbon removals.
Alberta’s provincial stone, petrified wood, are the fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation commonly found across western Canada. Like petrified wood, the StoneWoods Forest Carbon project represents our commitment to permanence and the legacy Wild + Pine endeavours to create in the habitats we restore. In early 2023, the first phase of Wild + Pine’s StoneWoods Forest Carbon project began restoration, aiming to restore thousands of acres of Alberta’s sensitive landscapes.
Leveraging over a decade of successful habitat restoration, Wild + Pine aggregates forest restoration project sites across central Alberta to deploy natural climate solutions. With afforestation being the predominant mechanism for ecosystem restoration, StoneWoods will provide partners with high-quality, transparent, and additional carbon removals.
These verified removals act as sustainability assets to leverage against the emissions profiles of participating organizations. The regionally focused project retains long-term permanence and additionality, while providing notable regional co-benefits such as biodiversity enhancement, reduction of forest fragmentation, and local economic stimulation.
For organizations that have a net-zero mandate in place, have identified a need for a diversified emissions management portfolio, and place value in restoring the Canadian landscape while supporting the regional/domestic economy.
Designed for small and medium businesses and/or events who have an engaged customer base, and are taking a leadership role in emissions management while restoring the Canadian Landscape and supporting the regional/domestic economy.
Please reach out to Wild + Pine for further project information and to be included in the upcoming phase of deployment.

The StoneWoods Forest Carbon Project offers a pathway that strengthens environmental, social, and economic sustainability, while serving the business community with secure access to sustainability assets that are critical in today’s shifting economy.
The primary benefit of the project is carbon sequestration from environmental restoration and conservation activities; Forest management that supports a healthy understory and aids in the transition of a forest through its successional stages, and afforestation that captures carbon in new growth.
Through StoneWoods, Wild + Pine builds a carbon removal asset on behalf of its partners. Much like the conversation surrounding renting a home vs. buying a home, Wild + Pine’s approach is tailored to those with the long-term vision of building a sustainability asset with enduring value, economically.
The motivation of this approach is to provide project partners a pathway that is agnostic to the price volatility and availability of offsets in a futures carbon market, while building truly additional direct-to-client carbon removals.
In addition to the removal of atmospheric carbon, this project will increase the connectivity of Alberta’s vital Central Parkland landscape. This natural region is one of Canada’s most fragmented landscapes, where more than 80% of the natural cover has been converted to other land-uses. This diverse setting provides habitat for numerous vital local species and is an important wildlife corridor between the boreal and prairies.
In areas traditionally dominated by agriculture and fragmented by oil and gas exploration, this project will serve as an example that builds on our strengths in a transitioning low-carbon economy. With the economic benefits realized through executing projects here in Alberta opposed to overseas, Wild + Pine has aimed the development of the StoneWoods project to build on our strengths of sustainable forest management while stimulating our regional economy.
Traditional land uses and recreational activities, such as hiking, bird watching, and hunting, are woven into the fabric of many Canadian’s lifestyles. By restoring our regional habitats, Wild + Pine is improving the natural landscape where many Canadians can easily access and call home. Restoring the connectivity of wildlife corridors and the diverse forest structure needed for vibrant ecosystems is essential in improving the celebrated traditional use and rich history our province holds.
