Wild + Pine, a Certified B Corporation that develops verified nature-based carbon removal assets, has announced today the groundbreaking for the third phase of StoneWoods Forest Carbon Project (StoneWoods) – the largest afforestation project in Western Canada. The project targets the restoration of 3,700 acres of land to benefit biodiversity, enhance wildlife connectivity, and remove carbon from the atmosphere. Wild + Pine’s work to scale nature-based carbon removal assets in StoneWoods is supported by partnerships with companies including Aviva plc, TELUS, Edmonton International Airport (YEG), Parkland Corporation and HCMA.
Wild + Pine is redefining the world’s approach to carbon removal by creating nature-based assets for global climate leaders. Founded by Chris Kallal, the company focuses on the development of verified carbon removal projects, primarily through the restoration of Alberta’s forests.
March 21, 2024 (Edmonton, AB) – On United Nations International Day of Forests, Edmonton International Airport (YEG) celebrates its leadership in eco-responsibility, committed to protecting lands and biodiversity in the region. With environmental stewardship at the forefront of airport operations, YEG partnered with Edmonton-based Wild + Pine in 2021 as part of its Airport City Sustainability Campus. In 2023, the airport invested in the StoneWoods Forest Carbon Project to plant 50,000 tree seedlings, restoring 61 acres of land, about the size of one of YEG’s runways and the terminal building.

TORONTO, Dec. 6, 2023 /CNW/ – Aviva plc has committed to a $6.2 million partnership with Edmonton-based Wild + Pine to restore degraded and marginal land back to a forested landscape, rebuild habitats, and remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. Wild + Pine is a Certified B Corporation that develops verified carbon removal assets through afforestation to achieve corporate climate goals by restoring landscapes and improving the biodiversity in the region.

As Canada joins countries around the world in building a strategy to meet its greenhouse emissions goals, the federal government has recently announced their two billion tree commitment. The goal? To strengthen our vast, healthy, and resilient forest ecosystems and mitigate carbon emissions by planting two billion trees in the next 10 years.
Wild + Pine’s initial vision first started as a conventional greenhouse near the Edmonton International Airport, using conventional methodologies and growing practices. As they learned more about grow-light technology, however, they quickly realized they couldn’t succeed without embracing the latest technological advances.
